İstanbul International Financial Center project has a significant role in making the Turkish economy reach its strategic targets. All stakeholders, and particularly the financial sector, must adopt this project so that it can be realized with a sound infrastructure as soon as possible, and İstanbul becomes the indisputable center of the region and a leading actor of the global financial network.
Within the framework of the Capital Markets Law no. 6362, re-structuring the Turkish capital markets and institutions as effective and efficient markets capable of responding to the developments in the international markets, Borsa İstanbul, which was converted into an organization offering trading of capital markets instruments under a single roof, is one of the leading actors of Istanbul International Financial Center project. In line with the target of making İstanbul an international financial center, Borsa İstanbul successfully represents Turkey in international platforms.
Borsa İstanbul endeavors to become a platform for trading domestic and foreign securities, to create the required infrastructure towards this purpose, strengthen cooperation with world exchanges, and establish strategic partnerships where necessary in order to make İstanbul first a regional, and finally an international financial center. Borsa İstanbul’s efforts aimed at Istanbul International Financial Center project includes the strategic cooperation agreements with NASDAQ, London Stock Exchange, London Metal Exchange, Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing; World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center established in Borsa İstanbul campus to search on Islamic financial products; and cooperation with universities and technopark projects. Efforts within this framework are in progress.
Borsa İstanbul is the pillar of Istanbul International Financial Center project, and in addition to numerous activities, it realizes the forum series entitled “İstanbul: Regional Hub, Global Actor” in important centers of the world economy for continuous promotion and presentation on a global and local scale. The Forums are organized with the participation of senior managers from a wide range of sectors, including the government, private sector, international financial institutions, investment companies, think tanks, non-governmental organizations, and national/international media; display the opportunities and competitive advantages of Turkey; and contribute to realizing this project.
